A trauma, mechanical injury or musculoskeletal disease affecting ligaments, tendons, cartilage and bones inside the knee joint may lead to a variety of knee problems. These can include:

  • discomfort
  • reduced range of movement
  • stiffness
  • swelling
  • locking of the knee joint
  • instability
  • altered gait
  • a “clicking” sound from the knee joint.

Any one of these can make managing daily activities difficult, or disrupt hobbies involving physical activity. For these reasons, it's important that you seek specialist advice and possibly conservative or surgical treatment if you're experiencing knee problems. Our highly trained orthopaedic specialist consultants are renowned in their area of expertise, offering reassurance, peace of mind and support throughout the process of seeking medical and any surgical treatment.

The services available include rapid, comprehensive diagnostic imaging or screening of your knee to support an early diagnosis. This may include using the very latest MRI scanning facilities and ultrasound or conventional X-rays. To ensure an accurate diagnosis, and when clinically indicated, we can also use minor diagnostic procedures to assist. This is called an arthroscopy. In this procedure, a tiny telescopic camera is inserted into the knee joint to obtain a clear picture of the problem.

Once a diagnosis has been made, our orthopaedic specialist consultants can recommend any follow-up treatment that you may need. These could include specialist physiotherapy, conventional management, or state-of-the-art surgical techniques such as keyhole surgery.

Our team also works very closely with our physiotherapists to help you get back on your feet as quickly as possible.
